1st year enrolment in the Graduate School

Application form

To apply for enrolment in the Graduate School, please fill in the application form that can be downloaded from:

All applicants must attach to their application file a certificate from the future thesis director agreeing to validate this application on the proposed project.

If you do not want to apply for a doctoral fellowship from the University of Nice Côte d'Azur:

The completed application has to be submitted BEFORE: SEPTEMBER 12th, 2024.



The registration for the PhD program is subject to the award of a 3-year fellowship equivalent in amount to the doctoral fellowship from the University.

Documents to be provided when enrolling in The Graduate School

Candidates who hold a Master degree Specialty RESEARCH obtained from a French university:

According to the resolution adopted by the Universitys Scientific Board on May 5th, 2006, the candidate has to be ranked in the top half of his Master graduation.
 
If this information is not available or if the condition is not fulfilled, the request will be examined by the Graduate School board. The board will decide if an interview by a committee appointed by the board of the Graduate School is granted. In exceptional cases the interview can be substituted by an expertise of the candidates application by three researchers, who are members of the board.

The candidates request for registration with the PhD program will be examined by the Graduate School board. The board will take into account the elements mentioned above and will consider any additional elements that support the candidates application.

Candidates who hold another type of Master degree (or an equivalent conferring the title of a Master degree) obtained from a French University:

The candidate has to provide the office of the Graduate School with the following documents:

  • The grade sheets of the completed 1st and 2nd year of the Master degree. The grades have to be at least magna cum laude (bien). The mark for the defence of the professional training course cannot be below 14/20
  • The report of his/her Master degree and all other documents (publications, research grades...) proving scientific work experience on a research project
  • A certificate of the future supervisor validating his (her) application, and all additional information regarding complementary training that the candidate will undergo during the first year to complete his training as junior researcher
  • Any documents that testify to the research training obtained by the candidate in the course of his past professional experience

The candidates request for enrolment in the Graduate School will be examined by the Graduate School board. The board will take into account the elements mentioned above and will consider any additional elements that support the candidates application.

Depending on the supplied documents the Graduate School board will determine if the candidate has to take one or two modules of the Master's degree of research "Sciences of life and the Health" at the University of Nice Côte d'Azur during his/her first year to complete his/her training. In this case, the validation of these modules will be required for the enrolment for the 2nd year of the PhD.

Candidates, who do NOT hold a French master degree:

The candidate has to provide the office of the Graduate School with the following documents:

  • A diploma equivalent to a French Master degree and the proof that he/she is ranked in the first quarter of his graduation
  • Any documents certifying his/her scientific research training at a Master degree level
  • The grade sheets of diplomas obtained during the last five years
  • A certificate of the future supervisor validating his/her application, and all additional information regarding complementary training that the candidate will undergo during the first year to complete his training as junior researcher.
  • Any documents that testify to the research training obtained by the candidate in the course of his past professional experiences

The candidates request for enrolment in the Graduate School will be examined by the Graduate School board. The board will take into account the elements mentioned above and will consider any additional elements that support the candidates application.

Depending on the supplied documents the Graduate School board will determine if the candidate has to take one or two modules of the Master's degree of research "Sciences of life and the Health" at the University of Nice Côte d'Azur during his/her first year to complete his/her training. In this case, the validation of these modules will be required for the enrolment for the 2nd year of the PhD.

Examination of the applications by the Graduate School board (in June or September)

After examination of the applications by the Graduate School board, the candidates are informed by email:

  • The application is accepted. The candidate can register on ADUM: Registration User guide
     
    To supervisors: Tutorial
    Only supervisors and lab directors who have been "designated" by the PhD student will receive an email from ADUM inviting them to provide an agreement on the inscription.
     
  • The application is conditional upon obtaining funding. Registration remains on hold until funding is secured.
     
  • Candidates, who have received a notice of pending decision, might be invited for an interview on September 26th, 2024.

Administrative with the University

When the registration on ADUM has been validated by the Direction of the Doctoral School, the candidate receives an email from ADUM informing him that his registration has been proposed to the Head of the establishment and that he can finalize his administrative registration in 1st doctoral year by following the steps at the following link: http://univ-cotedazur.fr/inscriptions/fr, to obtain his student card.

PhD co-supervision (specific cases)

If one co-supervisor does not belong to the Université Côte d'Azur:

A co-supervision agreement must be established :

  • between Université Côte d'Azur and another French university : please download the co-supervision agreement form (Word doc) fill it, get it signed by all parties and send it to the Graduate School.
  • between Université Côte d'Azur and a foreign university : please download the co-supervision agreement form (Word doc) fill it, get it signed by all parties and send it to the Graduate School.

If one of the co-supervisors is not qualified to supervise students:

Please, provide the Graduate School (loudig@ipmc.cnrs.fr) with the following documents:

  • Non HDR exemption request form : complete and sign the first two pages (Word doc)
  • CV of the co-supervisor
  • List of publications of the co-supervisor
  • Written request from the co-supervisor outlining their motivations and specifying the amount of time devoted to supervising the doctoral student
  • Motivated letter from the Université Côte d'Azur director justifying the choice of the co-supervisor

Notes: The HDR must be defended within a year after the registration authorization has been delivered.


 

Université Côte d'Azur will authorize a maximum of 2 co-supervisions for a non-qualified supervisor.
